New course: 'Bioinformatics of transcriptional regulation'
by Vassilios Ioannidis - Tuesday, 8 April 2008, 05:38 PM
  SIB

This course attempts to present the state of the art of bioinformatics methods and resources for studying transcriptional regulation.

The practical part is largely based on the following databases and web-servers :

  • The Eukaryotic Promoter Database EPD: Retrieval of useful and reliable information on promoters, and how to use this information for studying transcriptional regulatory mechanisms.
  • CleanEx: How to access, combine and effectively use public gene expression data.
  • HTP SELEX: A database of quantitative predictive models for transcription factor binding sites.
  • Signal Search Analysis (SSA): Motif discovery in functionally related DNA sequences and new tools to study the architecture of gene regulatory regions.

The theoretical part is aimed at providing an overview of public data and computational methods relevant to the understanding of gene regulation. Particular emphasis will be on the analysis of so-called mass genome annotation (MGA) data such as CAGE for mapping transcription start sites, or ChIP-seq for mapping in vivo transcription factor binding sites.

New materials on Biostatistics
by Admin User - Monday, 25 February 2008, 01:17 PM
Education newsThe course on Introductory Biostatistics has been updated and expanded for its use at the Spanish EMBnet node this week.

In addition we have added to the exchange repository new materials on statistics from Universidad de Cádiz in Spain released under GNU licenses.

They are three books on Statistics (written in Spanish):
You can find them in the Lecture Notes section.

Site and Course exchange presented to Spanish Bioinformaticians
by Admin User - Monday, 25 February 2008, 01:15 PM
MEETING We presented this site, its contents and most specially the course and material repository for public exchange to the Spanish National Bioinformatics Network (Red Temática Nacional de Bioinformática) last week at its Annual General Meeting in Valencia.

The presentation was warmly received and we look forward to growing collaboration with members of the network.
